Zehra Fazal Impresses as Wonder Woman in “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”
Wonder Woman is the latest in a series of DC Comics characters Zehra Fazal has voiced.

The video game “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” released earlier this month to mixed reviews. While some critics say that the game is "much better than the marketing would have you believe," many video games critics and fans feel let down by the game’s inclusion of live service elements. One thing that’s not disappointing, though, is Muslim American voice actor Zehra Fazal’s performance as Wonder Woman.

Weeks before the game’s launch, Fazal took to social media to express her excitement over the role: “Years in the making, I can finally say it. I'm Wonder Woman.”

“Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” is the latest installment in Rocksteady Studios “Batman: Arkham” (2009–) series. It is the highly anticipated sequel to "Batman: Arkham Knight" (2015). Based on the DC Comics team Suicide Squad, the game follows four supervillains — Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn and King Shark — who are assembled to stop the alien invader Brainiac and kill the members of the Justice League the he has brainwashed.

Fazal’s Wonder Woman features as a recurring character and the only member of the Justice League not under Brainiac's control. Initially refusing to work with the Suicide Squad on their mission to kill her friends, Wonder Woman ends up saving the squad from several risky situations caused by the now deadly Justice League.

Despite the game’s mixed reception, praise for Fazal’s performance as Diana Prince has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans have taken to social media to praise the performance, sometimes highlighting it as one of the game’s few high points.

“The only performance that stood out was Zehra Fazal's portrayal as Wonder Woman,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “That was it. It is amazing. Zehra brought the power of Wonder Woman in the game. Her performance is not bad, it's in the wrong game.”

Others expressed their happiness with seeing Muslim representation in the game. “I’m happy people are enjoying this version of Wonder Woman,” another user wrote on X, “but it would be nice if those same people acknowledged the actor who plays and models her at least once … none of you are mentioning her? She’s played by a Muslim American Pakistani actor!”

Still more suggested that Fazal’s Wonder Woman would be a preferable choice for future live action portrayals of the character, with one user writing, “If the SnyderVerse somehow returns, I want Zehra Fazal to play Wonder Woman instead.”

Fazal is no stranger to voicing DC Comics characters. Her impressive resume includes Batman's anti-heroine love interest Talia al Ghul in "Batman: Death in the Family" (2020) and "Catwoman: Hunted" (2022), a variety of characters including Bluebird in the fan favorite show "Young Justice" (2010–2023), Noor Rashid in "Gotham Knights" (2022) and supervillain Livewire and other voices in "My Adventures with Superman" (2023–).

Aside from Fazal’s role as Wonder Woman, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” is notable for another performance — this game features longtime Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman following his death in November 2022.

“Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” is available to play now on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S.
