The nomination is notable because the majority of Rakim’s lyrics relate to his identity as a Muslim, which has gone on to influence other contemporary Muslim rappers.
You Can Engage in a Personalized Ramadan Experience on Spotify This Year
This year, Spotify is rolling out a new personalized Ramadan listening experience for users around the world. The feature, exclusively on the mobile app, will highlight curated podcasts, music, Quranic recitations, quotes and playlists for a “supercharged Ramadan experience,” according to Managing Director for Spotify Asia Pacific Gautam Talwar. Additionally, the streaming company hopes to amplify Muslim creators and support more meaningful connections between creators and listeners.
Said Senior Production Manager Nick Dahl, “Ramadan is observed by more than 1.6 billion people around the world and we want to build a better, more localized product experience that celebrates our listeners’ cultures. Our long-term ambition is to become their number one choice as an audio companion throughout the fasting period—from dawn to dusk—and to celebrate the end of Ramadan with Eid.”
