Out Now: “The Moon from Dehradun” Retells Partition for Children

Joining the collection of creative projects marking the 75th anniversary of the partition of India, Shirin Shamsi’s “The Moon from Dehradun: A Story of Partition” is a picture book telling the story of a little girl and her doll as they leave their home for a new one.

In an interview with Publisher’s Weekly, Shamsi said “There are millions of stories that were never heard. So many people have passed away and carried their stories with them. The world needs to know these stories.“

For those that need a little brush up on their history, the partition of India in 1947 was the largest mass migration event in human history. It marked the end of colonial British rule and led to the creation of current day India and Pakistan
