Out Now: T-Pain’s “On Top of the Covers” Experiments With Musical Genres
The recent independent album “On Top of the Covers” is rapper T-Pain’s seventh studio album and first record since 2019. Atypical of his well-known style and frequent auto-tuning, he reimagines eight classics by greats such as Frank Sinatra, Black Sabbath and Sam Smith within his own R&B framework. Produced by him, Lil Rod and Blaqsmurph, “On Top of the Covers” showcases T-Pain’s natural singing voice and artistic license.
Said the artist to Rolling Stone of the years-long project, “These songs are not what you’d expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it.”
