Out Now: Warsan Shire's Poetry Collection “Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head”

Somali British writer Warsan Shire has released her first full-length poetry series, “Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head.” Containing several dozen poems grouped by four themes, this partly biographical collection discusses her own life and those of various women around her in regard to neglect, resilience, migration and survival.

The multitalented Shire, who was the first Young Poet Laureate of London, has also written books and the short film “Brave Girl Rising,” among other things. In addition, she collaborated on Disney’s “Black Is King” and the Peabody-winning visual album “Lemonade” with Beyoncé.
