Out Now: Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow's "Hold Them Close" Celebrates Black Joy

Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow’s new picture book celebrating Black joy is now available. Written as a poem, “Hold Them Close: A Love Letter to Black Children” was described in Publisher’s Weekly as “a stirring free verse love letter to Black children and community, carrying readers through a range of experiences to be held tight or dismissed.” 

Thompkins-Bigelow is the author of “Mommy’s Khimar,” “Your Name Is a Song,” and “Abdul’s Story.”  “Mommy’s Khimar” was selected as a Best Book of 2018 by NPR, Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal, and Shelf Awareness.

“Hold Them Close” is written for children ages 4-8 and is published by HarperCollins.
