Out Now: “In Search of Bengali Harlem” Documents South Asian American History

The documentary “In Search of Bengali Harlem” was released in various film festivals in November. The feature-length film tells the emotional story of Alaudin Ullah, starting with his coming of age in Harlem when he rejected his Muslim and South Asian roots and found himself in art and music. As an adult he works to reclaim his heritage and discover the lost history of his parents’ migration from Bangladesh to the U.S.

The film features playwright Alaudin Ullah and MIT historian and filmmaker Vivek Bald as co-directors/writers/actors and Beyza Boyacıoğlu as editor, plus several musical artists.
