Open Call for Queer and Trans Palestinian Utopia Anthology
Meraj is welcoming submissions from both seasoned artists and those who have been previously unpublished, strongly encouraging even first-time creators to submit their work.
Meraj Publishing, a trans and queer Muslim publishing house dedicated to amplifying trans and queer Muslim voices, just just announced an open call for a queer and trans Palestinian utopian anthology.
“As we witness the unfolding genocide and the global rise of people to confront it, we are birthing a new world,” Meraj said in the open call. “Queer and Trans individuals have always been pivotal in world-building. Particularly, queer and trans Palestinians are leading the movement for a free Palestine and a world without systemic oppression.”
The publisher is seeking submissions from queer and trans Palestinians for essays, short stories, poetry and visual arts envisioning a utopia. Meraj is welcoming submissions from both seasoned artists and those who have been previously unpublished, strongly encouraging even first-time creators to submit their work. Arabic submissions are welcome and will be translated by the collection's editor, Mx. Yaffa. While previously published works are accepted, priority will be given to unpublished pieces.
Selected submissions will receive a $200 honorarium. This call is open globally to queer and trans Palestinians. The collection will be edited by Mx. Yaffa, a queer and trans Palestinian whose focus lies in utopia building within a queer and trans Muslim context.
Meraj Publishing is a trans and queer Muslim publishing house that centers trans and queer Muslim voices from the global majority. Meraj prioritizes stories that focus on building utopia, hope, love, spirituality and belonging. Meraj Publishing is entirely run and operated by trans and queer Muslim global majority.
Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with a tentative deadline of Jan. 1, 2024 and the goal of full publication in early spring. The publisher hopes you will join them in shaping a new narrative and envisioning a brighter future.
