Is Gen Z “Built Different” When It Comes to Anti-Racism?

Rifelion’s flagship podcast, “American Muslim Project,” has released a new episode that focuses on the important issues facing the American Muslim community today. The show, which focuses on the Muslims who are shaping America, continually brings new segments and focus to the show to emphasize the news and culture American Muslims are immersed in every day.

In this week’s episode, host Asad Butt runs through major headlines relaying the impact of the conflict in Palestine, from Israel launching attacks on Rafah, the last “safe zone” in Gaza, to the stabbing of a Palestinian American in Austin. Butt also explores some questionable (read: Islamophobic) opinion pieces posted recently by The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.

Later in the episode, Butt discusses actress Selma Blair’s Islamophobic and xenophobic comments on Instagram. In more positive news, Butt also covers how Sam Gill, President and CEO of the Doris Duke Foundation, recently wrote an opinion piece on Hollywood’s responsibility in combating Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.

Finally, Butt interviews Neebz Khan, a digital creator whose TikTok account was banned following his posts about Palestine, and his hope in the future with Gen Z.

In 2020, Asad Butt launched Rifelion Media to help elevate diverse voices, with “American Muslim Project” as the company’s first production. Butt is also a startup advisor and investor, primarily working with pet care and education founders, as well as accelerator programs. Prior to his work in the startup industry, Butt worked in broadcast television and video production. In 2004, he helped launch Bridges TV, the first American Muslim lifestyle network, serving as its first news director, producer and anchor.

New episodes of “American Muslim Project” release every Thursday. Listen to the latest episode — “The Audacity of Gen Z, Muslims on Screen, and Neebz Cancelled” — below, or catch up wherever you listen to podcasts.
