Iman Vellani Is Hopeful for the Future of “Ms. Marvel”
“The Marvels” took nearly three years to complete — quite some time for a freshly 21-year-old Vellani. But Vellani doesn’t regret the time spent. “I had so much fun making it, and I just want to share that with everyone,” she said. “Hopefully, that comes across on the screen as well.”

Anyone keeping up with the conversation surrounding “The Marvels” right now knows that Iman Vellani is the film’s breakout star. While the film’s three leads have all been praised for their on-screen chemistry, Vellani’s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel has especially stolen the public’s hearts and is near-unanimously considered a scene stealer in the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

“The Marvels” picks up closely after "Ms. Marvel" (2022), which served as Kamala Khan’s origin story and has generally been praised as the best of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series. The film stars Vellani alongside Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monia Rambeau.

In a recent spoiler-filled conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Vellani broke down her journey from fan to actor, her hopes for a second season of “Ms. Marvel” and the shocking mid-credits cameo in “The Marvels.”

During the interview, Vellani revealed that she’s spent her off-time during the recent SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes writing a comic book. Her debut comic is, appropriately, a Ms. Marvel story that Vellani is co-writing with Sabir Pirzada, who also worked on the “Ms. Marvel” miniseries.

It’s fitting for Vellani to leave her mark as a writer on Marvel Comics — much like her character’s fanaticism for the Avengers, Vellani is an avid fangirl of the MCU. On-set, her co-stars quickly learned of Vellani’s knowledge and would ask her questions about their characters and the lore behind their scenes. Vellani has even previously ribbed Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige over which multiverse he believes the MCU lands in (Feige say it’s Earth-616, but Vellani insists the MCU is definitely Earth-199999).

Vellani says she’s leaving Feige alone until he announces “Ms. Marvel” season two.

When asked about if she’s optimistic about “Ms. Marvel” earning a second season, she replied, “I am patient, and honestly, I hope all the love that Kamala is getting from this movie inspires people to be more vocal about wanting a season two.”

One thing’s for certain — “Ms. Marvel” season two or no, the MCU hasn’t seen the last of Iman Vellani and Kamala Khan.
