Huma Abedin’s Memoir “Both/And” To Be Adapted for TV By Freebird Films

Huma Abedin’s New York Times bestselling memoir “Both/And: A Life in Many Worlds,” which details her embattled public life as Hillary Clinton’s former aide and Anthony Weiner’s former spouse, is set to be adapted into a television series by actress Freida Pinto, who is also slated to star. The series is being adapted by Pinto’s production company Freebird Films Entertainment, which “develops and produces provocative stories with the intention of challenging stale assumptions, reflecting and celebrating diversity, uplifting the work and lives of intrepid women and revealing everyday heroes.” Abedin, who currently works as a consultant for the Clinton Foundation, will serve as an executive producer.

“Both/And,” which was published in 2021, contrasts her identity as a Muslim woman born in Saudi Arabia and what she calls “Hillaryland,” her name for the political world she joined in 1996, when she was an intern under Hillary Clinton during Bill Clinton’s presidency. The memoir is described as a way for her to “take command of her own story,” particularly after the FBI’s investigation of security breaches following Clinton’s 2016 presidential bid led to discovery of Weiner’s sexting scandal and his subsequent sentencing to 21 years in prison. In recent years, she told ABC News Australia, the most common headlines about her have been “what is wrong with her” and “what is she thinking?” According to a New York Times review, the book also examines “how much her upbringing as a faithful Muslim distinguished her in the circles in which she moved.”

In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Abedin said of the television project, “It was clear to me from our very first conversation that [the production team] not only believe in but get the story, that they have a vision and a passion about bringing a life filled with unexpected adventures to the world in a way that is true to who I hope to remain always – defiantly optimistic.”
