Dua Lipa Teases New Album With Instagram Wipe

Lipa's upcoming album, set for 2024, will feature a "1970s-era psychedelic" vibe, though the new album will remain within the pop genre "lest her fans have a meltdown." Lipa has also hinted that the album already has a title, although she has chosen to keep it under wraps for now.

Dua Lipa has hinted at new music by clearing her Instagram posts, a tactic often used by artists before a major release or era shift. She also changed her profile picture to a blue, kaleidoscopic-like image with visible eyes. The album art for her previous albums has also been updated with a kaleidoscopic aesthetic.

Her upcoming album, set for 2024, will feature a "1970s-era psychedelic" vibe, though the new album will remain within the pop genre. As per her feature The New York Times’ T Magazine, as written by Kurt Soller — “The next record will still be pop, [Lipa] says, lest her ‘fans have a meltdown.’ She doesn’t want to ‘alienate’ them, although she’s developing a new sound that may be informed less by the house and disco beats beneath songs like ‘Physical’ and ‘Hallucinate’ than by 1970s-era psychedelia.” Lipa has also hinted that the album already has a title, although she has chosen to keep it under wraps for now.

The album will also likely involve Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. Lipa has been teasing her third album since early 2022, initially telling Elton John on her “Dua Lipa: At Your Service” podcast it was about 50 percent complete. However, by the end of the year, she mentioned it had taken a different direction. In August, she confirmed that the new album would be out in 2024.

Lipa, known for hits like "Levitating" and "Don’t Start Now," has previously collaborated with Madonna, Elton John and Miley Cyrus. Her second studio album, “Future Nostalgia,” went on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. Lipa recently had a successful tour featuring Megan Thee Stallion, Caroline Polachek and fellow Muslim artist Lolo Zouaï.

Lipa recently released "Dance The Night," the theme song for Greta Gerwig’s buzzy summer blockbuster “Barbie” (2023); the infectiously danceable song became her fifth top-10 Billboard Hot 100 hit. Lipa also played Mermaid Barbie in the film.

Despite the clear changes as Lipa enters a new era, her fans are excited about the upcoming release.
