Dua Lipa Drops New Single “Training Season” Before Third Album Release

Dua Lipa Drops New Single “Training Season” Before Third Album Release
Lipa says the song's title was inspired by a series of bad dates, prompting her to tell her collaborators that "training season is over."

Three-time Grammy winning pop star Dua Lipa just released a new single and music video called “Training Season.” The song serves as the second single for her upcoming third studio album.

Following the success of her 2020 album “Future Nostalgia,” Lipa has kept busy with a remix album, a global tour, a variety of collaborations and dipping her toes into the world of acting. But despite earning two Grammy nods for her work on “Barbie” (2023), it's been almost three years since Lipa’s last album.

“Training Season” follows Lipa’s November 2023 release “Houdini” and her performance at the 2024 Grammys, where she performed a medley of the songs from her as-of-yet untitled third album with “Dance The Night” from "Barbie The Album."

In a recent press release, Lipa shared what inspired her latest single. “I had been on a string of bad dates, and the last one was the final straw," she said. "The next morning, I arrived to the studio to [songwriters] Caroline [Ailin] and Tobias [Jesso Jr.] asking me how it all went and I immediately declared ‘TRAINING SEASON IS OVER,’ and like the best ‘day after’ debriefs with your mates, we had a lot of laughs and it all quickly came together from there."

"And while it is obviously about that feeling when you are just absolutely done telling people — men specifically, in this case — how to date you right, it is also about my training season being over and me growing with every experience,” she continued.

“I have never felt more confident, clear or empowered. And while it may be that training season is never over for any of us, you start to see the beauty in finding that person to experience it with. You stop looking for the trainees and become more interested in having someone where you are and someone to grow with.”

Lipa's upcoming third studio album is set to arrive later this year.
