MuslimFest is an annual festival dedicated to Muslim arts, culture and entertainment. The festival has been held for twenty years, featuring musical performances, film screenings and spoken word performances. This year, the festival has been held in Brantford; London, Ontario; and Mississauga. Two final dates are happening today, Sept. 2, in Quebec City, and Sept. 3 in Ottawa.

The festival began in 2004, and has been organized ever since by Tariq Syed, the Event Director. Each year, the festival spotlights a different country and their art, including countries of the Middle East, Malaysia, Pakistan, and countries in Africa with significant Muslim populations. The festival has also been visited by several political officials, and has become a hub for cultural celebration of Muslim arts.

This year’s festival features spoken word performances by Ibn Qalam and Maliha Bhutta Khan, and an Aywa concert featuring Yahya Hawwa and Mustafa Alazawwi, as well as a halal food market. Maher Zain is also returning to the festival for a performance for the first time since 2016. The festival will also feature an Egyptian cultural pavilion this year.
